Etsy fees explained: what you pay to sell on Etsy

Every Etsy sale carries three fees: a listing fee, a transaction fee and a payment processing fee. Some sales also pay an Offsite Ads fee, and shops that list in another currency pay for the conversion. This guide explains what each one is charged on; the current US rates are on the Etsy calculator.

The fees on every sale

Listing fee

A small fixed fee to publish a listing, which lasts a few months or until the item sells. When a listing has several units, each extra unit sold renews it and pays the fee again. Automatic renewal is on by default and can be turned off per listing.

Transaction fee

A percentage of what you charge for the item, its shipping and gift wrap. Because shipping is included, offering free shipping by adding it to the item price does not change the transaction fee much.

Payment processing fee

Charged by Etsy Payments on the order total, including the sales tax the buyer pays. It is a percentage plus a fixed amount, and both depend on the country of your bank account.

Offsite Ads

Etsy advertises listings on search engines and social media. If a buyer clicks one of those ads and buys from your shop within the attribution window, Etsy charges a percentage of the order, up to a maximum per order. Shops under a yearly sales level can opt out; above it the ads are mandatory and the rate is lower.

Other costs

  • Currency conversion, when your listings are in a currency other than your bank's.
  • Etsy Ads inside Etsy, billed as a daily budget rather than per sale.
  • Shipping labels bought through Etsy, which come out of your payment account.
  • Optional subscriptions such as Etsy Plus.
  • Regulatory operating fees for shops in some countries outside the United States.

Sales tax on Etsy

Etsy collects and remits sales tax on orders to US states that require it, as a marketplace facilitator. You do not keep the tax, but the payment processing fee is calculated on a total that includes it.

Etsy changes its fees from time to time, especially outside the US. The calculator shows the date its Etsy rates were last checked and links to Etsy's help pages.
