Marketplace fee changes

Every fee change behind the calculators, newest first: what changed, when it took effect, when it was announced and where it was published. The list is generated from the same data the calculators use, so the two never disagree.

    How this list works

Each marketplace's fees are stored as dated versions. A new version is added when a marketplace changes a rate, and old versions are never deleted. This page lists those versions with:

    • The effective date: the day the new rate starts to apply to sales.
    • The announcement date, when the marketplace published it in advance.
    • The source: the marketplace's official page, or a secondary source when the official page could not be read, which is marked as such.
    • The date we last checked the rate against the source.

When a change is announced for a future date, it shows here as upcoming, and the calculators switch to the new rate on that day without waiting for an update.

    How often marketplace fees change

Across the marketplaces covered here, fees change more than once a month on average. Changes cluster at the start of the year and again in the fall, ahead of the holiday season. Some are headline increases to the main percentage; many are quieter, such as a new surcharge, a change to how ads are attributed or a different fee for one category.

How we keep the rates current

    • The official fee pages are checked every week for changes in their text.
    • Every change is confirmed against the source and tested with a worked example before it goes live.
    • If a marketplace has not been checked for 45 days, its results show a warning to confirm on the official site.
    • After 90 days without a check, it leaves the comparison and its page shows only the official link. An old number is worse than none.

    eBay fees at a glance

eBay sellers in the US pay a final value fee, a percentage of the order total including shipping and sales tax that depends on the category and on having a Store, plus a fixed per-order fee. International sales, Promoted Listings and below-standard performance add more. The eBay calculator applies the current version automatically.

    Questions

Where do these fee changes come from?

From the official fee pages of each marketplace. When an official page cannot be read, a secondary source is used and labeled as such.

Do the calculators update automatically when fees change?

Yes. Changes announced in advance are stored with their effective date, and the calculators switch on that day.

    Did eBay raise its fees?

eBay adjusts its fees from time to time, often early in the year. The list shows each eBay change with its date and source, and the eBay calculator uses the version in force today.
