How Mercari charges sellers
In the United States, Mercari charges a selling fee calculated on the item price plus the shipping the buyer pays. It no longer charges a separate payment processing fee on most sales. The current rate is in the table above, with the date it was checked.
- Buyer pays shipping: the fee is calculated on the item price and on that shipping amount.
- You pay shipping: the label cost comes out of your earnings, and the fee is on the item price.
- Cashing out: a standard transfer to your bank is free; an instant transfer has its own fee.
Offering free shipping means the label comes out of your pocket, but the fee is only on the item. Compare both options in the calculator before you list.
Mercari or another marketplace?
For the same item, Mercari, Poshmark, Depop and eBay can leave you very different amounts, especially on cheap items where flat fees weigh more. The comparison on the home page puts them side by side with one input.
What the calculator does not know
- Promotions, seller tier discounts and offers Mercari runs for some accounts.
- Returns and cancellations.
- Shipping adjustments when the package weighs more than the label you chose.
